As a parent, you’re likely familiar with the challenges of balancing your child’s academic and social development with their physical activity and emotional needs. At Little Scholars, we understand the importance of providing children with a well-rounded education that stimulates their minds and bodies. That’s why our educational programming has a big focus on the natural environment. We offer an innovative outdoor education experience that fosters exploration, discovery, and learning in the natural environment. Our Outdoor Explorers program encompasses bush, beach and pram kinder, allowing all our little scholars, big and small, to experience nature at its best!

What are bush, beach and pram kinder?

They are Little Scholars’ nature-based learning programs designed to help children develop an appreciation for the outdoors and its many wonders. At Little Scholars, we believe that spending time in nature has numerous benefits for children, including improved physical health and strength, enhanced cognitive development, and better emotional regulation. Through our bush and beach kinder program, children have the opportunity to connect with nature on a deep level, learn about the environment, and engage in meaningful, hands-on experiences. Our littlest scholars don’t miss out either, as we offer pram kinder in our campuses, during which our babies and toddlers can sit back, relax and enjoy nature from the comfort of our four-child prams.

During our outdoor explorer sessions, children have the opportunity to engage in a range of activities, from nature walks and bird watching to building shelters and learning about Indigenous culture. Children climb, scramble, jump and more in nature’s playground.

Our outdoor educators are highly experienced and qualified in outdoor education and child development. They are passionate about providing children with meaningful learning experiences in a safe and supportive environment. We take the safety and security of our children very seriously. Our bush kinder program is conducted in a safe and secure outdoor environment, with strict protocols in place to ensure the well-being of all children.

We believe in promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship through our Bush, Beach and Pram Kinder programs. Children learn about the importance of conservation and how they can make a positive impact on the environment.

We also offer a range of additional nature-based learning experiences throughout the year, including our outdoor classroom which offers a mud kitchen, water play area, and a sensory garden that are designed to encourage children to use their imagination and creativity. In addition to these features, we have also incorporated natural materials such as rocks, logs, and sandpits to create a space that feels like an extension of nature.

At Little Scholars, we are committed to providing the highest quality education and care for children. We believe that our Bush, Beach and Pram Kinder programs are a truly unique and valuable experience that offers children the opportunity to learn and grow in a way that is both fun and enriching.

If you’re interested in enrolling your child at Little Scholars, please contact us today to learn more. We look forward to welcoming your child into our community of nature-based learners.

It’s never too early to get children interested in science and help build their curiosity about the world around us!

Starting children’s interests in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subjects young gives them critical thinking and problem-solving skills that they can take with them into their future education and careers.

Little Scholars School of Early Learning introduced STEM to our extra-curricular program for our kindy children, making science accessible and fun for everyone with our friends at Lab Kids. The program follows the Early Years Learning Framework as well as the Australian National Curriculum, and tackles subjects such as motion, states of matter, light and sound, and chemical reactions to name a few!

Learning Environments

Encourage exploration and creativity

At Little Scholars we believe that ‘the environment is the third teacher’ (Reggio Emilia theory). The physical environment and the learning spaces that we set up for children contribute to children’s wellbeing, creativity and developing independence.

We believe we have a privilege of bringing magic to a child’s day by creating beautiful, whimsical, and inspiring learning spaces that will stir creativity, learning and exploration. Inside and outside we aim to set up inviting, interesting, and uncluttered spaces for children to explore. Our indoor environments are made up of a variety of areas including those for quiet and calm, building and construction, dining, creative expression and arts, dramatic play areas, and more. Our outdoor environments allow for sport, climbing, running, jumping, risk-taking, physical challenges, as well as sensory activities and quiet, cosy reading spaces in the fresh air. Our activities are thoughtfully and beautifully set up to encourage exploration and creativity.

Our learning environments are thoughtfully crafted to be visually alluring and inviting, with a focus on creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that supports children’s learning and development.

We ensure studio spaces are inclusive, where all children feel supported, and give children a sense of belonging in the studio. We also love to celebrate culture and holidays with beauty and respect.

We provide spaces that calm little minds as much as invigorate, and they can influence behaviour and determine how children interact with them. We aim for our little scholars to enter their studios excited for the day just by looking around at all the learning and joyful spaces created just for them.

There is something magical about childhood. The simplicity of what it means to be a child, from running, climbing and laughing, to exploring the world through curious eyes.

Mindfulness at Little Scholars

Happy, and fulfilled lifestyle for our Little Scholars

At Little Scholars, we understand the importance of equipping children with tools to manage stress and navigate their emotions. That’s why we’ve introduced our comprehensive Mindfulness Program across all our campuses.

This program is designed to help children understand and manage their emotions, cope with day-to-day challenges, and interact positively with others, including their peers and siblings. By incorporating mindfulness into their daily routine, our Little Scholars gain valuable skills that enhance their emotional and social development.

The program is developed in collaboration with Mindful & Co Kids, founded by Jacqueline Yeats, a Child Psychotherapist. Her scientifically-backed mindful exercises are tailored specifically for young children, making them both engaging and effective.

Research shows that mindfulness practices in early childhood can significantly improve a child’s ability to regulate cognitive processes and enhance overall wellbeing. Our little scholars engage in a variety of activities, such as the ABCs of Mindfulness, yoga flashcards, and memory cards, all designed to foster mindfulness in a fun and interactive way.

Yoga is a key component of our program, with children participating in weekly yoga sessions. These sessions, along with time spent outdoors in nature, contribute to a holistic approach to wellbeing. Our Mindfulness Program is a vital part of our holistic learning model, supporting the happy and healthy development of our little scholars.

The Collective

Our emergent educational curriculum

The Collective, our emergent educational curriculum, is aligned to our Little Scholars vision, mission statement, philosophy, and our play-based approach to children’s learning. This streamlined approach of an emergent curriculum supports educators to adopt child development theory and put into practice.

Our educational program is based on the premise that children are most successful at learning when curriculum experiences account for children’s interests, strengths, and individual needs. The Collective encompasses all aspects of Little Scholars, including a collaborative approach with our children, families, educators, and community.

Our weekly programs, which can be seen in our studios, are responsive to the evolving interests and needs of the children and allow for flexibility and extended periods of play and research to test theories. This enquiry-led teaching strengthens children to become competent and capable across their developmental domains. The Collective allows educators to follow the children’s lead and actively explore new concepts, ideas, or interest.

How does The Collective work?

At the heart of The Collective is a commitment to nurturing the full potential of every child. Our approach is not just a curriculum; it’s a philosophy that permeates every aspect of Little Scholars, from our studios to our community engagements, and even our long-term projects like the 2036 initiative.

By adopting The Collective, we’re not just educating; we’re cultivating a community of lifelong learners. We’re not just preparing children for primary school; we’re laying the foundation for a lifetime of curiosity, resilience, and success.

So, when you step into a Little Scholars campus, you’re not just entering a childcare centre; you’re becoming part of a vibrant learning community where every child is a cherished member, every educator is a guide, and every day is a new opportunity for discovery.

Our 2036 Vision

Svg Bg 1
0n9a0468 4

In 2036, the children enrolled in our campuses will be adults. Some will be graduating from university, while others will have started their careers, and perhaps those with an adventurous spirit may be travelling the world.

We acknowledge what we do today directly impacts our little scholars’ tomorrow and we recognise what an honour it is to be a part of their journey. Learn more about how we’re helping your child prepare for their bright future.

We launched our 2036 Project in 2020, with items from all of our Little Scholars campuses at the time adding to a time capsule that we buried at our Burleigh campus, with the intent for everyone to return to dig it up in, you guessed it, 2036!

At that time, we asked our Little Scholars families, what was the number one thing they wanted for their children when they grew up? Unanimously their child being happy was their biggest wish.

We take this wish seriously, and across all campuses, our teams are working tirelessly to create experiences for children that provide them the skills to grow up as happy, resilient and mindful contributors to society, which in turn will create a positive and successful future. All of this while playing and having fun!

Healthy meals are the foundation of growth

Developing healthy eating habits
Svg Bg 1
Nutrition Image 1

Little Scholars believes that healthy meals are the foundation of growth, early childhood development and education. Developing healthy eating habits is a fundamental skill for young children and we play an important role in helping your child learn about and enjoy a variety of nutritious foods each day. That’s why our Little Scholars campuses employ qualified chefs to prepare tasty, nutritious meals and snacks in commercial kitchens. These meals are safe, developmentally appropriate and properly portioned for your child. It’s a recommendation from health authorities that children in long daycare are provided with at least 50 per cent of their daily nutritional requirements whilst they are in care.

We have an exciting rotating four-week menu that changes seasonally and incorporates a variety of flavours and textures to support our children trying new things, expanding their palates and promotes healthy eating. This menu always on display for families to have a look at, and we’re always open to suggestions from parents!

We provide your child with opportunities to enjoy healthy foods that promote growth and allow them to learn food preferences and good dietary habits that help them live a healthy lifestyle. Little Scholars offers a seasonal, Feed Australia-approved weekly menu, which includes vegetarian and halal options if required. We devote significant resources to allergy requirements, all combined with our user-friendly online allergy notification system.

Healthy eating from early childhood also means children will have less chance of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity and some cancers. But it will also mean they feel great and enjoy life more!
