What is WonderNest?

WonderNest is our new virtual reality program at Little Scholars designed especially for kindergarteners. Using child-friendly Class VR glasses, we transport young minds into immersive learning experiences – from walking with dinosaurs to exploring the ocean – all under guided supervision. This program isn’t just about cool gadgets; it’s about bringing classroom lessons to life in a fun, interactive way. Think of WonderNest as a virtual field trip that extends your child’s learning beyond the pages of a book, making education exciting and tangible.

Why WonderNest? Because we believe children learn best when they are engaged and having fun. With WonderNest, concepts that might seem abstract or hard to grasp in a traditional classroom suddenly become real and memorable. And rest assured: safety, education, and child-friendly design are at the core of WonderNest. Below, we outline how the program works and why you can feel confident about your child using it.

How the WonderNest Program Works

Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect from the WonderNest program schedule and logistics:
Small Group Session Icon
Small Group Sessions:

We introduce VR in small groups of 3-5 children at a time, within the familiar classroom setting. Small groups ensure each child gets attention and feels comfortable. Others may be doing a different activity while one group explores WonderNest, and then we rotate.

Frequency Icon
Frequency:

WonderNest sessions are treated as a special time or weekly highlight. Typically, your child will have a short VR session about once a week (or a few times a month) as part of our learning themes. We deliberately keep it occasional and novel, so it remains exciting and doesn’t overtake other activities.

Duration Icon
Duration:

As mentioned, each child’s turn in VR lasts only 5–8 minutes. In one session slot, a small group rotates so that each child gets their 8-minute immersive experience. The short duration aligns with expert guidance for young kids’ VR use and ensures it’s a focused learning burst.

Content Topics Icon
Content & Topics:

All VR experiences are age-appropriate and curriculum-aligned. We select programs that are colourful, gentle, and interactive without being overwhelming. Some experiences are like virtual storybooks, others are like exploring a scene (e.g., a safari, a trip to space, a dive undersea). There is no violent or adult content – only educational fun.

Preparation Icon
Preparation:

You don’t need to do anything special to prepare your child. We introduce the headset to children beforehand, letting them touch and try it (powered off) so they get used to the idea. We explain in simple terms what they will see (“We’re going to put on magic glasses and go somewhere fun!”). Children typically adjust very quickly and are fascinated by the experience.

During Session Icon
During the Session:

One teacher helps children put on the VR glasses securely and comfortably. Another teacher or aide monitors the tablet/monitor that mirrors what the child is seeing. We gently narrate or ask questions as they explore (“Can you spot the red fish? What is the weather like in the forest right now?”) to keep it interactive. If a child feels unsure at any point, we can pause or end the experience – but so far, most are fully captivated in a positive way!

After Session Icon
After the Session:

Reflection is a key part of learning. Right after taking off the headset, we encourage each child to share something about their VR adventure – what made them say “wow”, or one new thing they learned. You’ll be amazed at how excited they are to tell you, too! We often tie a follow-up activity to the VR content (for example, after “visiting” the ocean, we might do an art project drawing ocean animals). This helps reinforce the learning and allows kids to process the experience.

Parental Comms Icon
Parental Communication:

We know you’ll be curious about these VR adventures. Our teachers will keep you in the loop about what experiences your child had. Don’t be surprised if your little one comes home raving, “I went to space today!” – we’ll make sure to explain the context in our newsletters or updates, so you know how it fits into their learning. You are also welcome to see the VR in action; feel free to ask us for a demo or to observe a session! We want you to feel as comfortable with WonderNest as we are.

Bringing Learning to Life with VR

Wondernest Vr Image@2x

WonderNest is not just safe – it’s incredibly enriching for your child’s learning! We call it “wonder” for a reason. With these VR experiences, lessons that children usually see in books or on 2D screens burst into three-dimensional life. This kind of immersive learning keeps young children excited, curious, and eager to learn more.

As one educator put it, “These aren’t gaming devices. This is an educational tool that brings our lessons to life.”

In WonderNest, children get to experience what they’re learning:

By engaging multiple senses and simulating real-world (or imaginary) environments, VR helps concepts click in young minds. The Class VR headsets spark curiosity, deepen focus, and make abstract ideas more tangible for children. We see it in their reactions: “They’re excited, they ask more questions and they’re more engaged,” as one teacher observed about using VR with kids. This higher engagement can lead to better understanding and memory of what they learned.

Most importantly, WonderNest is an extension of our existing curriculum – not a random tech gimmick. Each VR session is thoughtfully chosen to match what the children are already learning in class. If our theme of the week is “Weather and Seasons,” the VR lesson might let them watch a gentle rainstorm in a forest or feel like they’re catching snowflakes. If we’re talking about community helpers, maybe they’ll get a 360° tour of a virtual fire station. In this way, VR reinforces and enriches their regular lessons. It’s like adding an exciting virtual field trip without leaving the classroom.

And don’t worry: we balance VR with plenty of traditional hands-on activities. WonderNest doesn’t replace real-world play or teacher-led instruction – it enhances them. After a VR session, teachers lead a group discussion or a creative activity (like
drawing what they saw or acting it out) to solidify the learning. This blend of virtual and real-world learning helps children connect the dots between what they saw in VR and how it relates to the world around them.

Safety First: Designed for Young Children

We understand that as parents, your top question is, “Is it safe?” WonderNest is built from the ground up with young children’s safety and health in mind. From the technology itself to how we use it in class, every measure is taken to protect and comfort your child.

Here are the key safety features of our program:

100% Offline & Secure:

Our WonderNest VR program does not connect to the internet during use. All content is pre-loaded and vetted by our educators. This means no strangers, no chats, and no data collection while your child is in VR. By staying offline, we eliminate the risks of online content or contacts, ensuring a completely controlled environment for exploration. You can be confident that what happens in WonderNest stays in WonderNest!

Short Sessions (8 Minutes):

Each VR adventure is deliberately limited to about 8 minutes. Experts recommend keeping VR sessions brief for young kids – on the order of mere minutes, not hours. In fact, child development researchers note that “VR is meant to be done on the five- to 10-minute scale.” By capping sessions at 8 minutes, we make sure the experience is a fun burst of learning without overstimulation or fatigue. After each session, children take a break to rest their eyes and discuss what they saw, following best practices for healthy screen time.

Kid-Friendly Design & Comfort:

The Class VR glasses are built with little ones in mind. They are lightweight, padded, and adjustable for small heads – no bulky equipment that strains necks. The content itself is age-appropriate: gentle audio, friendly visuals, and easy-to-understand narration. We avoid any intense or scary material. Everything in WonderNest is as kid-friendly as their favourite picture book, just way more interactive!

Always Supervised by Teachers:

Your child will never use WonderNest alone. A trained teacher or facilitator is right there every time, guiding the VR session and keeping an eye on each child. We treat VR time like a mini class outing: one of our staff is “in the virtual room” with the kids at all times (viewing the same content on a monitor). This means we can pause the experience if a child feels uneasy and answer questions in the moment. Active adult monitoring is a core rule for VR use, and we’ve built that into WonderNest from day one. You can relax knowing your child is in good hands throughout their adventure.

Health & Eye Safety:

Worried about eyes or dizziness? We’ve got you covered. Short, kid-length VR sessions have been shown to have no significant effect on children’s vision or balance. In one study, 94% of young children had no issues after even much longer VR sessions. Our 8-minute adventures are well below that threshold. We also make sure the room is safe and free of obstacles (so children won’t bump into things if they move a bit) and encourage them to move gently during VR. After each session, we do a quick check-in: “How do you feel?” Thus far, kids have finished their WonderNest sessions with big smiles and no discomfort. Plus, we clean and sanitise the headsets between uses for good hygiene.

Bottom line: WonderNest is safe for your child. We’ve addressed the common concerns – no internet, very limited time, appropriate content, and constant supervision. As an educator-run program, we’re up-to-date on the latest recommendations to ensure physical, emotional, and digital safety for every little explorer. Your child’s well-being is always our top priority during this journey.

A Note from Our Founder

Jae – Founder, Little Scholars School of Early Learning

“WonderNest has truly sparked our children’s curiosity and confidence,” says Jae, “It’s amazing to see them light up as they explore new worlds, all in a safe and controlled way. We created WonderNest to extend learning beyond the classroom walls, and we’re 100% committed to using it responsibly. Seeing a child gasp in awe at a coral reef or giggle at a friendly dinosaur – those moments are priceless. And as an teacher and founder, I love that they’re not just entertained, they’re learning. We’re so excited to share this journey with your family!”

Parent Q&A
Is it safe for my child’s eyes?

Absolutely. We take eye safety very seriously. Our WonderNest VR sessions are kept very short – just a few minutes at a time (well under the 15-minute limit recommended by eye doctors) – to protect your child’s vision. Experts have found no evidence of any harm to young children’s eyesight from brief, supervised VR use. The Class VR headset is also kid-friendly and comfortable, so it’s gentle on those little eyes throughout their tiny adventures.

Yes! We gently sanitise each headset between every use. After one child’s turn is over, our staff thoroughly wipes down the goggles, straps, and controls with child-safe antibacterial wipes. This means every child gets a fresh, clean headset – no icky germs here, just fun! Hygiene is a top priority for us, so you can be confident the equipment is as clean as a whistle for your little one.

No worries – WonderNest is designed to delight, not frighten. The virtual experiences are bright, friendly, and age-appropriate, so children find them more like an interactive storybook than
anything scary. We introduce new VR adventures slowly and playfully, always keeping things comfortable. Plus, our educators are right there with the children to guide them. If any child feels unsure or a bit overwhelmed, we can pause immediately – but most kiddos are all smiles and curiosity once they start exploring!

Just a short time. Each VR session lasts about 10 minutes or less, which is plenty for a kindergarten adventure. We make sure children spend only a few minutes in VR – far below the maximum limits recommended for young kids. It’s a quick, fun activity (like a virtual field trip or story time) within their regular day. The rest of the day they’re still doing all their normal hands-on learning, play, and nap time – WonderNest is just a brief, exciting interlude.

Not at all – your child will never be unsupervised while using WonderNest. Our teachers are always right next to the children during the VR sessions, talking to them and guiding them through the experience. Often, we have small groups exploring together or an educator helping one-on-one, so kids know a friendly grown-up is always there. Also, the WonderNest program is completely offline and pre-programmed, meaning there are no strangers or outside interactions in VR. Your little one may feel like they’ve stepped into a storybook world, but they’re certainly not alone – we’re there to keep them safe and comfy every moment.

Definitely not! Wondernest isn’t a replacement for real-life learning – it’s just a fun addition. Think of it like a bonus field trip or an interactive storytime that enhances and complements what they learn in class. Your child will still be painting, building, reading, and playing with friends at Little Scholars just like always, and the VR adventures only happen occasionally as a special treat to spark their imagination. We firmly believe hands-on play and teacher-led activities are irreplaceable – Wondernest simply adds a bit of extra magic on top of the wonderful learning already happening.
