Our Kindergarten program is designed for children aged four and over, offering a play-based, holistic approach to learning in the year before school. Delivered by qualified Early Childhood Teachers, the program builds school readiness through early language, literacy and numeracy while nurturing confidence, independence and social skills.
Through engaging, hands-on experiences, children develop self-regulation, cooperation, problem-solving abilities, and both gross and fine motor skills. We encourage meaningful friendships, celebrate diverse cultures and support every child through a positive transition to Prep and beyond.
Our research-backed kindergarten program at Little Scholars is designed by degree-qualified Early Childhood Teachers, and shaped by the children themselves.
Little Scholars offer a range of extracurriculars, excursions, and incursions for our Kindergarten children.
Note: Specific inclusions may vary slightly by location. Contact your nearest campus for full list.
Starting Prep is huge, for them and for you. At Little Scholars, we build a proper, year-long transition program that takes the guesswork out of one of the biggest moments of their little life.
Before the year ends, your child's ECT prepares a formal transitional statement and shares it with their incoming school — so their Prep teacher already knows who they are and how they learn.
We organise multiple visits to the school your child will be attending so they become familiar with the building, the playground, and the faces so none of it is a huge surprise on day one of Prep.
The unsung hero of school readiness. Opening a lunchbox sounds simple. It isn't. We run dedicated Lunchbox Days where kids practice the fine art of independent eating - unclipping containers, unwrapping snacks, and actually finishing their food before the bell.
Holding a pencil correctly, forming letters, learning to write their name. These skills take time and practice and we build them in from day one of kindy, not week one of Prep.
Making friends. Navigating conflict. Managing big feelings. Understanding that things don't always go your way — and that's okay. This is the work that matters most, and we do it every single day.
A formal transitional statement is prepared by your child's Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) and passed directly to their Prep teacher, so the relationship between kindy and school is seamless.
Transition to school isn't a moment. It's a year-long process. We start preparing your child from day one of kindy. By the time they walk through those school gates, they won't just be ready... they'll be excited!

At Little Scholars, we provide our incredible four-year-olds with opportunities for experiment and play, and help them get ready for the next big step in their lives – Prep.
Our degree-qualified early childhood teachers (ECT) plan daily activities in kindergarten that encourage curiosity, creativity, self-expression and socialisation in every child. We believe that learning should be fun, so each day is filled with educational play experiences designed to engage, challenge and delight your little explorer.
Four-year-olds in kindy begin to prepare for prep by learning important skills such as developing reading, writing and numeracy, using language to communicate ideas, feelings and needs, becoming more independent and confident in their abilities, and more.
Our curriculum is created jointly with our children. Our four-year-olds are provided the time and space to explore, imagine, create, problem solve and develop social groups, and guided by educators to find their individual learning journey.

We practice life skills such as using the toilet independently, getting dressed and putting on shoes, opening lunch boxes and drink bottles, packing up after play, improve fine motor skills with activities like using scissors, holding pencils/crayons between thumb and two fingers, help physical development with activities like climbing playgrounds and obstacle courses, running, hoping and jumping with increasing agility.
We believe getting out in nature is important for our little scholars, so Little Scholars get out regularly into the bush and to the beach to play, learn and interact with the great outdoors on bush and beach kinder. We also provide other exceptional extra-curricular programs by experts in their field to get energetic bodies and minds moving, including music and dance classes, sports, swimming lessons, and more.
Most importantly, our four-year-olds learn through play, and we make sure there’s ample time for play, art, dance and creativity. We foster their imagination and discovery with endless resources and creative play opportunities.
Our Brisbane and Gold Coast childcare centres provide a safe, caring and educational environment that encourages children to be curious, creative and confident.
Our first priority is the growth and development of your child; we nurture, teach and guide your child to developing all the skills that will allow them to succeed in life. Contact us today to book a tour of one of our Brisbane or Gold Coast campuses – we look forward to meeting you!
From 2024, eligible families can access Free Kindy at Little Scholars, with the Queensland Government covering 15 hours per week for 40 weeks a year for children in the year before school.

Your child needs to turn 4 years old by 30 June in the year they attend Kindy. So if your little one’s birthday is before 30 June, they’re good to go that same year. Not sure? Give us a call and we’ll work it out with you.
No, they are completely different programs! Kindy is the year before Prep, typically ages 4–5. It’s play-based, child-led, and focused on getting your child ready for the structured school environment. Think of kindergarten as the launchpad, and prep is where the rocket lifts off.
Every child develops at their own pace, so school readiness is about much more than age or academic skills. While recognising letters, numbers and writing their name can help, research shows that confidence, communication, social skills and emotional regulation are just as important for a successful start to school.
Our Kindergarten Program supports children through play-based learning that builds resilience, confidence and a love of learning. Every child develops at their own pace, and our educators work closely with families to support each child’s individual journey.
You can read more in our blog, Is Your Child Ready for Prep? Understanding School Readiness in Queensland.
Busy, intentional, and fun! There’s guided play, literacy and numeracy activities, outdoor exploration, creative arts, group time, and plenty of unstructured play. Your child won’t just sit at a desk, they’ll be creating, building, climbing, and collaborating. Every day is different because the curriculum responds to what the children are curious about.
Our kindergarten program is offered across our full long-day care hours which are between 6:00am to 6:30pm. The Queensland Government-funded 15 hours covers the core kindergarten program and we offer wrap-around care before and after which is CCS-eligible.
It’s genuinely free for the 15 funded Kindy hours and the Queensland Government pays the service Directly, so you don’t need to worry about this. Some minor ancillary costs (like certain excursions) may apply, but we’re upfront about that. Any hours attended outside of the 15 hours of free kindergarten are CCS eligible.
No. You simply enrol your child at Little Scholars, confirm they meet the eligibility criteria (turning 4 by 30 June in their Kindy year and living in Queensland), and the funding is applied automatically.
Yes, and this is where it gets good. Free Kindy covers the 15 core hours. CCS applies to any hours of care outside of that. So if your child attends full days, you’re looking at Free Kindy doing the heavy lifting on the Kindy hours, with CCS reducing the cost of the rest. Many families end up paying very little out of pocket for a full day.
Every single kindergarten studio at Little Scholars is led by a university-qualified Early Childhood Teacher (ECT). They plan the program, track each child’s development, and prepare the formal transitional statement to send to your child’s Prep teacher at the end of the year.
We run three educators per Kindy studio, which is above the national standard. More hands means more eyes on your child, more individual attention, and a calmer, more responsive environment.
This is a year-long process, not a week-before-school scramble. We liaise directly with your child’s Prep teacher, we run regular visits to their new school so it feels familiar before day one, and we practise real-world skills like opening lunchboxes, dressing independently, and putting up their hand. By the time they walk through those school gates, they’ll know the drill.
That’s exactly what Kindy is for! Building social confidence and emotional resilience is embedded into everything we do. Our educators are trained to support children who need more time to warm up, and we work closely with families to make the transition into Kindy as gentle as it needs to be.
Yes. We have inclusion support in place and work with the relevant funding streams to ensure children with additional needs are fully supported within the Kindy program. Talk to your nearest Little Scholars campus about your child’s specific needs.
Every child has a living portfolio which is updated with photos, learning stories, and observations. You can see what they’ve been doing, what they’re working on, and how they’re progressing. At the end of Kindy, a formal transitional statement is prepared and shared with their incoming Prep teacher, so nothing gets lost in the handover.

We adore the endless stream of questions that little ones bring to us every day! From an early education standpoint, we want children to learn at every opportunity. Children are inquisitive beings, and they have lots to learn! At Little Scholars, we cherish this innate curiosity in children and strive to foster a lifelong passion for learning.
As parents and educators, we understand that some questions from our little ones can catch us off guard, leaving us searching for the right words to provide age-appropriate answers. We’re here to lend a helping hand, so let’s tackle a few of these tough questions together!
“Everything about Little Scholars is about the children. It’s amazing to be surrounded by passionate educators that love making a difference for the children.”
We know it can be hard to come up with easy, quick things to do with your children, so we thought we’d share a favourite of our little scholars. Learn how to make your own moon sand in minutes with a few of these kitchen staples!
