Child Safety

Our Commitment to Child Safety and Wellbeing at Little Scholars

Child Safety at Little Scholars | Child Safe Childcare Gold Coast & Brisbane, SEQ

Child Safety at
Little Scholars.

Your child's safety isn't a policy we tick off once a year. It's the reason every room is designed the way it is, every person on our team is rigorously screened, and every child learns that their voice matters.

Our Commitment

We don't just meet
the standard. We set it.

Child safety is built into everything — how we hire, how we design our spaces, what children are taught, and how families are kept in the loop. We're a certified child safe organisation across 17 campuses in Gold Coast, Brisbane, Ipswich, and Redland Bay.

We comply with Queensland's Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 and the 10 National Child Safe Standards — and go further. Every educator, every chef, every campus leader plays an active role. Every single day.

"Child safety isn't something we do alongside everything else. It's the foundation everything else is built on. At Little Scholars, safety is lived — in every room, every interaction, and every decision we make."

What safety looks like day to day

Here's exactly what we do and what you'll see.

Safe spaces you can see into

No hidden rooms and no isolated spaced. Transparency is built into every campus.

  • Glass panels throughout — educators and children are always visible
  • Single-point secure entry for authorised people only
  • Visitors sign in and are accompanied at all times

No personal devices.

No personal phones on our learning floors.

  • Personal devices banned when working near children
  • Only Little Scholars-issued devices used to photograph children
  • No child's image shared without your explicit, signed consent
  • You're always in control of how your child's images are used

We act when something doesn't feel right

Every team member has a legal and moral obligation to report any concern — no matter how small.

  • Mandatory reporting embedded in training from day one
  • Clear protocols for physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and neglect
  • All reports directed to the appropriate authorities
  • Whistleblower Policy protects anyone who raises a concern
Safe People

Every person with access to your
child is rigorously screened.

Six layers of vetting — before anyone ever meets your child.

Step 01

Blue Card (Working With Children Check)

Every team member, student, and volunteer holds a current Blue Card before they're near children. Continuously monitored.

Step 02

Background & criminal history checks

Criminal record and employment history checks for all new team members. References include child-safety-specific questions.

Step 03

Child safe recruitment interview

Targeted questions to identify values and behaviours that align with our child safe culture.

Step 04

Mandatory child protection training

All team members complete mandatory child protection training with annual refreshers.

Step 05

Bravehearts educator training

Annual Bravehearts child protection training for all educators — the same program children experience in the classroom.

Ongoing

Codes of conduct & accountability

Our child safety codes apply to everyone — staff, volunteers, families, visitors. Not guidelines. Conditions of participation.

Empowering Children

We teach children that
their voice matters.

We don't just protect children — we give them the confidence to protect themselves.

Annual Program — All Campuses

Bravehearts' Ditto's Keep Safe Adventure Program

Every campus, every year. Three rules that stick:

01

"We all have the right to feel safe with people."

02

"It's okay to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure."

03

"Nothing is so yucky that you can't tell someone about it."

EYLF-aligned · Endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner · 1.6 million Australian children reached · Our educators complete annual Bravehearts training too.

Day for Daniel — Daniel Morcombe Foundation

We participate in Australia's largest child safety lesson annually. The Foundation's Recognise, React and Report framework gives children a clear language for talking about safety.

What children learn across our campuses

  • Trust their feelings and instincts
  • Understand body ownership and appropriate naming of body parts
  • Identify their trusted adults
  • Recognise the difference between safe and unsafe secrets
  • Communicate openly — nothing is too yucky to share
  • Look out for themselves and their friends

Cultural Safety

Every child deserves to feel safe — exactly as they are.

True child safety includes cultural safety. We're committed to welcoming environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, CALD families, children with disabilities, and all family structures.

Queensland's Universal Principle — unique to Queensland — requires organisations to actively foster culturally safe environments for First Nations children. At Little Scholars, that's embedded in how we hire, how we design spaces, and how we communicate with every family.

Queensland Universal Principle

Little Scholars actively fosters culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children — meeting Queensland's Universal Principle beyond the 10 National Standards.
